Miranda Creative partners with the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut to put local businesses “on the map.”

June 30, 2010: NORWICH – Miranda Creative, of Norwich, CT, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut, will be moderating a special intern project designed to help local businesses “get on the map” — maximizing geo location and mobile marketing resources to drive business.

“As of this month, more than 30% of all internet searches are performed on mobile devices,” advises Maria Miranda, principal of Miranda Creative. “By the close of this year, industry research indicates that this number will increase to 50%. Local businesses need to get up to speed on these trends, and this change in consumer behavior will impact buying decisions. We realized some time ago that it would take many hands to help our community maximize their web-based profiles, and for the past few months have been recruiting qualified interns to help handle the potential demand for advice/information.”

With the help of five credit-based interns from regional schools, members of the Eastern Connecticut Chamber will be able to seek support to engage/improve their business profile on four key geo-location tools: Google Places (search tool), Yahoo Local (search tool), Foursquare (geo location social media), and Yelp (opinion-based social media). To reimburse interns for out-of-pocket expenses, support will be provided for a modest fee of $25 per request.

To make a request, Chamber members are invited to visit mirandacreative.com where they will find a link to an easy-to-complete request form, as well as information about the fours tools being used. In addition, there are instructions about the type of information to gather (photos, profile, hours of operation) for an effective listing.

“Miranda Creative is on the cutting edge of social media. We were delighted to be chosen as a partner in the process,” shared Tony Sheridan, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut. “It’s a win-win situation, where interns gain valuable experience about mobile marketing and our members have access to support that they may not have otherwise. We applaud the schools who have participated and if the demand is great, we may see to engage another group of interns this Fall.”

The lead intern for this project is Hilary Bokoff, daughter of Marc and Allison Bokoff, as well as incoming senior at The Williams School. Hilary will coordinate the requests and prepare materials for disbursement to the intern team for processing. As part of her learning experience, Hilary will be documenting this project via a blog: www.hilarybokoff.wordpress.com.
